Abstract:
This document guides users to configure IPT (IP Transparency) on Red Lion's FlexEdge devices.
Products:
Red Lion Controls DA50a and DA70a series
Required Software:
Web browser such as Google Chrome, Firefox, Opera.
Procedure:
IPT (IP Transparency) allows the router to obtain an IP address from a cellular provider and issue this address via DHCP to a client device connected to an Ethernet port. Enabling IPT requires first configuring the Ethernet port to which the client will connect.
Once the Ethernet port has been configured, the modem settings should be edited to switch the Port Mode from Standard Interface to IP Transparency. This will enable the setting called Target Interface, which should be set to the Ethernet port to which the modem will be bound.
The Trust Status for an interface in IPT mode controls whether inbound connections from the cellular network will be passed to the client device. In Untrusted mode, no such connections will be allowed unless a specific rule exists in the Forwarding Rules table on the Transparency tab.
The Transparency tab is used to configure advanced option in IP Transparency mode:
The ICMP Forwarding settings are used to control how inbound ICMP ping requests will be handled. A Target Device setting of Blocked will prevent these requests from being processed.
A setting of Router will allow the Crimson device to handle the requests. A setting of Client will allow the client device connected to the bound Ethernet port to handle the requests.
The White List property is used to allow through only pings from the selected list.
The Forwarding Rules table is used define rules for handling inbound connection from the cellular network. If the interface is in Untrusted mode, only traffic that specifically matches a rule will be allowed through. In Trusted mode, traffic that does not match a rule will be forwarded to the client device connected to the bound Ethernet port.
Forwarding Rules have the following properties:
· The Label property provides a name for this rule.
· The Port property specifies the inbound port to which the rule applies.
· The Protocol property specifies the protocol to which the rule applies.
Click the green floppy disk sign to save the configuration and apply the change.
