Crimson 3.2 Factory Reset Switch for RLOS Based Devices
Abstract:
This document describes how to use the factory reset switch to access the System Web Server, and how to perform a factory reset. This applies to interface devices running the Red Lion Operating System (RLOS) that have Crimson 3.2 firmware installed.
Products:
CR1000 series HMIs
CR3000 series HMIs
DA series Data Stations
Graphite series HMIs and Edge Controllers
Use Case:
This applies to situations where you need to access the System Web Server and its diagnostic tools, and for cases when you need to do a factory reset to clear the database.
Required Software:
Crimson 3.2 build 3.2.0063 or higher
Enabling the System Web Server
There are two ways you can enable the System Web Server on RLOS based devices. One method is to enable and configure it in the Crimson 3.2 database file. To do this, in the Navigation Pane select Device Configuration, and go to the System Configuration | Services | Web Server section. In the System Web Server settings set the Operation to Enabled. The System Web Server has a default Admin account, with a default password of password.
You can change the default Admin account’s password and/or configure your own users and passwords in the Device Configuration | User Configuration | Local Users section. Note that for these changes to take effect, in the User Configuration section you need to set the Download | Included option to Yes.
The other option is to use the Factory Reset Switch to enable the System Web Server. You can use this option even if the System Web Server has not been enabled or configured in the current C3.2 database. If the system web server was never configured, and no user accounts were set up, then the default Admin account will be available with a default password of password.
On the CR series HMIs, the reset switch is next to the SD card slot on the side of the HMI. On the DA series Data Stations, the reset switch is next to the SD slot on the bottom of the unit. On Graphite series HMIs, the reset switch is in a hole on the back of the unit, near the bottom of the modules, which should be labelled Factory Reset. (Note this hole may be covered if a module is installed in that slot.) On the Edge Controller, the reset switch is between the SD card and the Ethernet 2 jack.
To enable the web server this way, cycle power on the unit, and press and hold the factory reset switch while it powers on. Hold the button in until the unit finishes booting up. After it finishes booting up, then click on the Home link in the upper left. You should then see System appear in the upper right, indicating the System Web Server is available. Click on System and it should take you to the System Web Server’s Log On page.
In the User Name field type Admin, in the Password field type in password (all lower case). This assumes you have not configured any user accounts or passwords of your own. Then click the Log On button, which will take you to the Home page for the Crimson 3.2 System Web Server.
There are several links along the top of the window. If you want to do a factory reset, select the System Info button at the bottom of the Home page to get to the System Information page. At the bottom are buttons for Force Reboot and Factory Reset.
You can also access other tools from the Home page. In the Configuration dropdown you can select links for Hardware, System, Personality, and Utilities. These will enable you to configure various Device Configuration settings. You can also use the Diagnostics dropdown to access the Crimson Console, do a Network Capture, and access the Network Info pages. If you want to get back to the application web server, click on the Runtime link in the upper right to take you to the Application Web Server’s Home page.
