Accessing Command Line Interface for N-Tron series NT24k Switches
Abstract
This tech note will explain how to configure a terminal emulation software and connect to the Command Line Interface (CLI) of our N-Tron series NT24k series switch models.
N-Tron® Series NT24k (All Models)
Switch Serial Port
N-Tron NT24k series managed switches have a USB standard B serial port to access the Command Line Interface (CLI). The USB serial port is located on the back of the NT24K rackmount models and on the front of the NT24K-DR16 and NT24K-DR24 models. The port is also labeled with "USB". The USB connection is used to access the Command Line Interpreter (CLI). If you need assistance, please contact Red Lion Technical Support or click here.
Connect the USB port of your PC and the Switch using a standard USB cable. A cable with a Type A connector for the PC end, and a Type B connector for the switch end must be used.
Hardware/Port Settings
The following configuration should be used to configure your terminal emulator application such as PuTTY, Tera Term, or Hyper Terminal:
Port Settings: 115200
Data Bits: 8
Parity: NONE
Stop bits: 1
Flow Control: NONE
Logging In (password protection)
Access using the switch command line is password-protected. Once you have the terminal program setup click Open. Press Enter to prompt for the username and password. The default credentials are admin for the username and the password. Use your custom credentials in the event you previously logged into the device and changed the credentials from the default.
*Note, if you do not remember your custom credentials, please refer to the tech note below:

(Note that the COM port might be different than COM1 on your device)
You can now activate the commands for the switch. Commands can be found in the Software Manual for your device or by typing “?” in the terminal.
