Q: Are there any diagnostics information that can be used for modbus through TCP/IP?
A: We have a few diagnostic options that we offer in the RTUs but not in the E2 modules. However, these are limited to the indication of the state of the RTU before falling out. To get diagnostic information on the status of the input and output points, you can configure the datalogging feature and poll those values on a periodic basis. These can be configured from the configuration window of the E2 module. A toolkit license has to be purchased prior to using the datalogging feature..
Q: What are the WatchDog output options? Are they available through modbus or just the Sixnet protocol?
A: The watchdog is actually a terminal output and not a register. The watchdog can be set to monitor a number of features such as power loss, PoE loss etc. The default value of this output is 1 and 0 represents the error state.
Q: In analog inputs on ET2, in the feature 1 column can be set for -4 milliamp. What is this used for?
A: The Analog values 4-20mA are scaled to the range between 0-32767. The '-Below 4mA' option allows you to scale the point even if the value falls below 4mA. Thus the value from 0-4mA will be scaled between -32768-0.
Q: Can the Sixnet ET-GT-232-1 gateway do hardware control using the RTS and CTS signal lines on the RS232 port?

Q: What is the port number that the Ethertrak Modules use to communicate over Sixnet and Modbus Protocol?
A: The EtherTRAK modules are configured to communicate via the Sixnet protocol which uses port 1594 and Modbus Protocol which uses Port 502
Q: I have a SixTrak unit that has stopped communicating with his HMI device over RS232. How do I find out if it's the SixTrak unit or the HMI that has stopped communicating?
A: You can use an RJ 45 to DB9 Connector to talk from PC to ST-GT-1210 and use the Sixnet Toolkit software to verify communications. On the other hand, you can plug in the port tester on the 232 port of the HMI to check if there are send/receive errors on the screen. In this way, you can isolate the problem.
Q: Is it possible to change settings of the RTU (like IP addresses) through Telnet of a Web application (Incase you want to add own web based application to a ST-IPM-6350).
A: Changing the IP address is possible using telnet. The port configurations are stored in a file which can be accessed and re-written.
Q: Is it possible to do a reset of the unit through Telnet?
A: Yes it is possible to reset the station using telnet. Tel-netting into the station and using the shutdown –r command does the needful
Q: Can Modbus addresses be reconfigured or are they hard coded into the devices?
A: Modbus addresses are hardcored into the devices and may not be changed.
Q:Is it possible to export the configuration of a sixnet device using ISAgraf?
A: You can download the ISAGRAF program that you have made, into the sixnet device using ISAGRAF. This can be done by navigating to Debug -> Download.
However, you cannot download the Sixnet device configuration into the sixnet device using ISAGRAF.
Q: Does Sixnet follow standard Modbus Addressing?
A: We follow standard modbus as far as the addressing is concerned. To poll or write to registers using modbus you need to use the following addresses:
DI - 1 | 0001-9999
DO - 0 | 0001-9999
AI - 3 | 0001-9999
AO - 4 | 0001-9999
Q: I see a warning message “Onboard I/O not linked or connected to the Station” when I load configuration to an E2 Module/RTU using the toolkit. What does this imply?
A: This means that base and the module aren’t talking to each other. Most likely, the module is not properly seated into the base. Remove the module from the base, plug it back in and you shouldn’t see this warning message when you load the configuration next time around.
