Abstract
This document describes updating a DA50N to a DA50A.
Products
FlexEdge DA50n
Use Case
Updating web GUI only based units to Crimson 3.2 based units.
Procedure
*NOTE: Please document any settings that you may need to reference upon device setup after the upgrade. The unit also needs to be FACTORY RESET prior to upgrading.
-
- Ensure the target device (DA50N) has firmware version 5.1.1 or better.
- Download the C32-3.5.0009.zip:
- Log in to the web GUI of the target DA50N.
- Navigate to: Admin menu --> Package Installation
- Drag and drop the C32.3.2.0009.zip file, or navigate to the zip file and upload it to the target device then select the install package.
- The system process the package then announces that the package has been successfully installed.
- The device will then reboot.
When the system comes back up, the legacy configuration will be removed and the device will be running Crimson 3.2 Gold Build 3.2.0009. To update to newer builds, use the Crimson configuration tool to download the new firmware image as usual.
Accessing the Device:
-
- When the device reboots, Ethernet 1 will be configured to use DHCP
- Plug an Ethernet cable, connected to a DHCP server, into Ethernet port 1 on the FlexEdge device
- Connect your PC via Ethernet cable to the same DHCP server
*NOTE: Disable PC Wi-Fi to ensure communication is only over Ethernet

Caution! Important Update:
After loading the image file, the unit will have firmware 3.2.0009. Do not try to download it with C3.2 Alpine release builds 3.2.0071 or 3.2.1005.
If you download with these Alpine releases from that old firmware, it will corrupt the system and you will need to send it in for repair. There is no way to recover from this issue in the field.
To avoid this problem, you must first download to the device using a previous build to do an interim firmware update. You can use any C3.2 build from 3.2.0016 up to 3.2.0067 to do this interim firmware update. If you already have a build in this range installed on a PC, then use that to download to the device and update the firmware. If not, then install C3.2 build 3.2.0067 on a PC and use that to update it first. Then after you download with this and get the firmware to the required interim level, you can safely update to Alpine releases 3.2.0071 and later and download to the device.
