Use Case: Formatting Battery Backed RAM
Required Software

Formatting battery-backed RAM and verifying NVRAM was formatted correctly.
- Format Battery Backed RAM. Connect to the RTU via Serial from a computer with the Tool Kit to Port B of the RTU. Go to Operations>>Advanced Operations>>Format Battery Backed RAM. Follow instructions.
- Messages in the Report Views Windows. Most of the time the Report Views window will show messages indicating the memory in the RTU’s NVRAM is set or complete. Sometimes it will give no messages whatsoever even though the operation was completed successfully.
- Verify the NVRAM was formatted. Formatting NVRAM will erase files from NVRAM. To verify the memory was erased go to Operations>>File Operations. Navigate to the /nvram/ directory. Look for the ‘_spfeat_.6sp’ and ‘restartReason’ files. If it is not present then the NVRAM has been successfully erased.
